Although ¡°Fringe Shanghai¡± did not run a full-scale festival in
2007, it continued to present a series of innovative, alternative
programs throughout the year.
In April, the ¡°Fringe Shanghai¡± team provided marketing,
ticketing and administrative support to the China debut in
Shanghai of the Iceland Dance Company.
In October, at about the same time that Shanghai hosted the
Special Olympics, ¡°Fringe Shanghai¡± presented a program
called
"Equal ARTpportunities"
and organized a series of public
exhibitions of works by physically and mentally challenged
artists.
In November, Fringe Shanghai presented a series of performances
by Hong Kong artists at the Asian Contemporary Drama Festival
organized by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center. This collaboration
was arranged to mark 2007 as the 10th Anniversary of the
reunification of Hong Kong and its Chinese motherland.
¡°Fringe Shanghai¡± and the Hong Kong Fringe Club have jointly
presented five outstanding non-mainstream theatre groups from
Mainland China during the 2008 City Festival. Titled ¡°The Free,
Young and Daring ¨C New Theatre from Mainland China Since 1997¡±,
this series of performances is a highlight in the
City Festival¡¯s ¡°Creative China¡±
theme program.
