Fringe Shanghai 2008 Call for Submissions

Fringe Shanghai, China’s first fringe festival is entering its second season. We are now seeking proposals from daring artists in the fields of drama, dance, visual arts, music and multi-media presentations. Our festival will also include a series of workshops and a Fringe Symposium.

Fringe Shanghai 2008 is tentatively scheduled to run from November 1 to 18, 2008.

The Festival aims to continue enriching Shanghai’s cultural scene and to strengthen connections between China’s arts scene and the international cutting edge. Our welcome goes out to both local and international artists to join the festival.

No artist is required to pay an application fee. However, each successful applicant will need to pay approximately US$100 to a Chinese mainland agent as the administration charge for performance license applications. The charge will be returned if the application is not successful.

Because of the nature of the festival, we are seeking works of a smaller scale, no longer than 30 minutes in duration. Exceptions will be considered for our “Highlights” program, particularly if the participants can secure the funding necessary to bring the whole team over.

Our team will work to assist with local embassies, corporations and other institutions to help match the artist with potential sponsorship.

As the festival organizers, we offer the following to selected participants:
Free performance venue
Technical support
Promotional support

What you are responsible for:
Your performance/exhibition
Your transportation to Shanghai
Your accommodation and living allowance in Shanghai
Provision of technical and publicity materials related to the performance.

Participants must provide their own airfare and transportation to Shanghai, the production costs of their works as well as accommodation in Shanghai.? Artists are encouraged to propose workshops, seminars and demonstrations to be given for the local arts community as well as for other participating artists, both local and international.

We look forward to your submissions. —N.B. Our Submission Deadline is Jan 2, 2008.
