Love and the City — Berlin Cabaret

Eva Meier

Paul Cibis (Accompanist)

A voice that has captivated audiences in major festivals throughout 5 continents

“Eva Meier’s style and her voice are dramatic, evocative and very sexy.” —-What’s on in London

Berlin, in the short period before the Nazi Regime came to power, inspired an astonishing array of great song composers such as Eisler, Heymann, Spoliansky, Waxman, and Kurt Weill, to write songs in a totally new and provocative style to depict the feelings of revenge, loneliness, anonymity, fear, love and dreams of that big city. Eva Meier is a passionate crusader for this unique Berlin Cabaret style. Her Shanghai debut also featured songs of Marlene Dietrich written by Hollaender; as well as songs by Peer Raben, who wrote music for the films of R.W. Fassbinder and recently for director Wong Kar Wai. Dramatic and sexy, her voice brought back the fading memory of the thriving music hall scene of Shanghai in the 30’s, “live”!
