In Search of Grand View Garden

Introduction:
The “Grand View Garden” is the garden compound where the Chinese classic novel Dream of the Red Chamber is set. The dream, the garden and the intricate inter-personal relationships in the novel also provided the framework for Beijing LDTX Modern Dance Company’s new piece In Search Of Grand View Garden. The world premiere of this unique performance was commissioned last August by the City of Los Angeles. “Fringe Shanghai 2006” was proud to present its Chinese premiere.

Food, Drink and Pottery Fun
——Zhao Family Kiln from Taizhong
Three descendants of the Zhao family of craftsmen from Taiwan are re-working the traditions handed down to them by their ancestors. Their wonderful workshop for Fringe Shanghai was geared towards pottery lovers and families who love to create.
Participants made pottery pieces with wheat sheaf patterns while, at the same time, filling their creations with DIY glutinous rice balls and ginger tea.
